Different Dentures for

Different Needs

Whether you have several missing teeth or have a full row to restore, we can meet your needs. At University Dental P.A., we offer a wide variety of dentures, including overdentures, snap-on dentures, fixed and partial dentures.

To help you choose the denture that's right for you, we will complete a thorough exam at our Columbia dental office. With an exam and consultation, we can determine what your needs are and help you put together a plan that will help you improve the appearance and functionality of your smile.

  • What is the difference between full and partial dentures?

Full dentures are used when a patient is missing all of their natural teeth. Partial dentures are used when only a few teeth are missing. Which option fits best is dependent on the unique needs of the patient, as in some cases, severely damaged or decayed teeth may be removed to make way for full dentures, versus trying to restore the tooth or teeth. Our dentists will walk you through the process of which options work best for your oral health needs and budget.

  • What are overdentures?

As their name implies, overdentures sit atop the gums and are are held in place with dental implants. Overdentures can be placed on the top or bottom jaw and are removable.

  • What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are placed the same-day that your teeth are extracted, meaning that there is no time spent without teeth while your custom/permanent dentures are made. They are often referred to as temporary dentures, as they do not always fit the mouth as perfectly as custom dentures would. Patients can opt to have immediate dentures placed to avoid the wait time until their custom dentures are created. Immeddiate dentures are typically worn for no longer than 6-8 months.

  • What are snap-in dentures?

Held in place with dental implants, snap-in dentures provide the patient with the stability of natural teeth with the ability to remove the appliance whenever required. The unique attachment is located on the tissue-side of the denture and designed to snap into the implant.
